It so happened that we finally ran out of capital. We could no longer sell food at the market. So instead of sitting around and doing nothing, I went to Shatu’s house. Luckily for me, there was drama. At least I will be entertained. Kubura, Shatu’s full sister had came back home from her husband’s house. As soon as she entered their compound, she put one hand on her head and the other arm was spread across her face, covering her eyes, she started screeching, crying and shouting saying: “By God, I shall not go back to his house, I will never go back” Shatu’s mother came out of the room running, when she saw her she puts both of her hands on her chest and exclaimed “Is everything fine, what is it Kubura, talk to me”   “Yeiii yeiii, weiii, weiii, hahhhhh yeii “ She continued crying as her chest heaves up and down. We came to where she was and also started asking her what the matter was. It was then she said “He hit me, the wicked man hit me” “Why? What happened? What

Zulais POV: The soft warmth of sunlight on my skin woke me up, it was a beautiful morning. I shot up from my bed, dazed. Blinking several times, I looked around and swallowed the panic climbing up my throat as I remembered the unfamiliar nightmare I had last night. It was about me and Alhaji Tanko. I’m glad it was all a dream, a very bad one. What bothered me was that it involved Alhaji Tanko, it’s so strange. I pushed away all my negative thoughts and joined the family for breakfast after washing my face and brushing my teeth. Afterwards I retired to my room to get some rest and more sleep. I tried so hard to go back to sleep but I couldn’t. My mind was not functioning well, all I could think of was the wonderful time I had with Tanimu yesterday. He is a unique guy, a little bit notorious for his lethal charisma and expensive habits. He cheered me up, he made me forget I was sad. We talked about many things, i realized that we have a lot in common. I enjoyed his compan

Markas POV: I’m certainly sure that Zulais mother has changed her mind about my brothers marriage to her daughter. She’s trying to get rid of me without making it seem obvious. I’ve been going to her house for over two weeks now, but she hasn’t given me a solid answer. For how long am I going to wait? I can’t wait any longer. I am going to protect Iros ego, and mine as well. Rejecting Alhaji Tanko is understandable, we all know that he is way out of her league. But Iro my brother is a perfect match for Zulai, even though he has some weird beliefs. It is well, I know what to do. if she doesn’t marry Iro, I’ll make sure she marries Alhaji Tanko. I will make sure I have done that which Alhaji dogo has instructed me to do a few weeks ago, which I had claimed that I had done. I didn’t do it because I was hoping for a positive result about Zulai and Iros issue. it’s clearly not happening. Let me carry Alh Dogos stuff and be on my way to her house. Zulai is an easy target, I can easily f

I had been selling food for a while. But saving the money is not exactly easy. If anything the capital had been decreasing. We have saved nothing. Selling food was not working. We were almost out of business. My mother was dead worried. We had to think of a way out. At the rate we were going, by the end of the month we will run out of capital. We wouldn’t have money for marriage. We would not have saved a dime. My mother was sitting in the courtyard on a small Woden chair, part of it was chopped of, it could not stand on its own. So, she set it beside the wall and rests her back on the wall. I was sitting on a clay brick. We were both silent, buried in our thoughts, thinking of ways to save some money. When Ameena ran into our house. She shouted “Come quickly, Halimatu is back, she does not have azeeema with her. Baaba Sa’a is causing a scene. Come quickly” She ran out immediately after the words left her mouth left her mouth. We wasted no time. I did not bother wearing a hija
